The Ginkgo is a unique species of tree and is the only extant taxon in the division Ginkgophyta. The Ginkgo appeared on Earth 270 millions years ago in south east Asia - as we call it nowadays- meaning 40 millions years before the dinosaurs making it the oldest vegetable specie in the world. It is cultivated in Tianmushan mountains since the antiquity and in Japan and South Korea since the 12th century. The Ginkgo is famous for being the only tree that survived Hiroshima nuclear bomb in 1945. The leaf contains the active ingredients: ginthetin, ginol, isothametine, flavone glycosides,camphor oil, sitestérine, lactone and catechin tanins.
