About this item: Inspired by the unique fauna found in Mexico, Gabriel Preciado creates this curious crawling iguana in vibrant hues of green and yellow. Preciado masterfully utilizes the technique of papier mache to create his stunning pieces, and then meticulously paints them in acrylics. - Hand-crafted item -- color, size and/or motif may vary slightly About our Artist: 'My name is Gabriel Preciado and I work in papiér-maché. When I was ten, I started to learn different craft techniques with my friends who were potters and artisans, which is why I’ve always liked this kind of work. Although papiér-maché is not considered a traditional as terracotta or ceramics, it is an artisanal endeavor. I use recycled cardboard, newspapers, flour, white glue, paints and lacquer. First, I make a paste with which the pieces are modeled. Each receives the desired textures and then they are painted. This part is the most fun because it brings the piece to life. It inspires me to look for those colors and most of my designs derive from nature, especially animals. I’ve had the opportunity to sell my art in different places around the country and, little by little, I hope to keep growing and improving the quality of my creations. I mostly wish to simply be healthy to keep doing the work I enjoy so I can create a better life for my family.'
