Providing glimpses at celebrations and family life, from romance to migrant work in the United States, the economical prose makes clear that in passing on the guitar, Tata is also passing along his heritage. Full-page pen-and-ink and watercolor illustrations, though strong in line, are sometimes awkward in execution. The layout, with boxed English text above and Spanish text below, is attractive. The story reads aloud equally well in English and Spanish. Similar in its warm tone to Alma Flor Ada's I Love Saturdays y domingos (Atheneum, 2002), this is a serviceable tale of a loving intergenerational relationship. About the Author ETHRIAM CASH BRAMMER hold a MFA in Creative Writing from San Francisco State University. A widely published poet, screenwriter and writer of fiction, he is also the translator of The Adventures of Don Chipote or When Parrots Brest Feed (Arte Público Press, 2000) and Lucas Guevara (Arte Público Press, 2002). This is his first bilingual picture book for children. Illustrator DANIEL LECHON is a prize-winning artist whose works have been collected and exhibited in museums and galleries in the United States and Mexico. Lechón currently resides in Houston, Texas where he continues to produce fine works for exhibit and sale. He has illustrated two books for Piñata Books: The Desert Is My Mother / El desierto is mi madre (Piñata Books, 1994) and The Gift of Poinsettia / El regalo de la flor de Nochebuena (Piñata Books, 1995).
