About M-Audio Super DAC | Digital-to-Analog Converter

The M-Audio Super DAC is the answer when you require reference-quality sound from your computer. Super DAC is a USB digital-to-analog converter with stereo RCA analog outputs and both coaxial and optical digital outputs. With audiophile-grade Wolfson DAC/ADCs, the M-Audio Super DAC performs 24-bit/192kHz high-definition audio conversion over a USB 2.0 connection. This results in the highest possible audio quality, which is critical for users who want to connect their audio equipment to their computer but are not satisfied with the sound quality of the typical computer sound card or the compression limitations of a Bluetooth connection. Six sampling rates between 44.1 and 192kHz are user selectable so you can achieve the exact performance level needed for any given circumstance. This has a built-in high quality headphone amplifier with both 1/4-inch and 1/8-inch jacks, for connecting any headphones directly without the need for an adapter. It also features analog stereo RCA line outs and coaxial and optical digital output connections, so you can easily connect a wide array of external equipment. Since virtually all high-quality audio equipment has a digital input, Super DAC’s optical and coaxial digital outputs are perfect for driving that equipment with a pure digital signal—especially valuable since most computers do not have a digital output. Super DAC is USB-powered or can use an optional AC wall adapter (not included). Frequently Asked Questions Why would I need a DAC? A DAC, or Digital Audio Converter, is necessary to get an audio or music signal from a digital state, like a .WAV file on your computer, to an analog state, an electrical signal that can be played back with your headphones or speakers. Any music that exists on your computer, phone, tablet, or other device is already digital and will use some sort of a digital converter before it makes it to your ears. Any digital device with speakers or a headphone output will already have it's own form of DAC, but these often only cover the bare-minimum and can leave a lot to be desired. In comparison, music playback may sound dull and less defined. Using an external DAC, like the Super DAC, is an easy way to upgrade the quality of audio playback from your device by providing superior conversion processing and higher sample rates. The Super DAC features Audiophile-grade Wolfson conversion and sample rates up to 192 kHz, allowing you to get more precision and details out of your music and audio playback. Does the Super DAC require any drivers? The Super DAC is class compliant for Mac operating systems, but will require a driver for use with Windows. Please check for the latest system requirements on the product page and download the latest available drivers from our Drivers and Updates page. What sample rates does the Super DAC support? The Super DAC will support 24 bit, 44.1 kHz to 192 kHz. In order to change this, visit your Audio settings panel in your DAW or other software. If the software does not have this option, you can change the settings from your Windows or Mac Sound Preferences: Windows: Navigate to your Control Panel Select Sound Under the Playback tab, find the device labeled USB Audio DAC and double click on it Find the Advanced tab Use the drop-down menu to select your desired sample rate Hit Apply and OK to exit Mac: Navigate to your Applications folder and the then your Utilities folder Find and open the Audio Midi Setup If you do not see a window appear, click on Window at the top of your screen and select Show Audio Devices Select the USB Audio DAC from the list on the left Use the Format drop-down menu to select a new sample rate What type of digital outputs does the Super DAC use? The Super DAC has two digital outputs: S/PDIF Optical and Coaxial. These can be used to easily send a digital output from your computer via USB to a S/PDIF optical or coaxial input on a home stereo system or an audio interface. These connections can often be mistaken for other
