Bo-hi (blood groove) is added to each side of the blade which can not only lighten the blade but also balance it to achieve optimal performance. (If you do not want the Bo-Hi, just let us know and we can customize for you.) A special clay is applied to the blade by hand, using a thin covering near the edge and a thicker layer over the rest of the blade. This results in a relatively quicker cooling of the edge during quenching, producing a harder edge and softer back. The beautiful real hamon is also a result of the differential cooling of the blade (quenching and tempering). Two seppas spacers secure the Tsuba. The Habaki (blade collar) is of brass composition. This Saya(sheath)of the sword is hard wooden. The Sage-O is tied around the Kurikata (knob) of the saya, the Koiguchi (scabbard mouth) and Kojiri (scabbard tip) has been hardened. Notice: 1.
