About the Author Jerry Davich was born and raised in Gary, Indiana. Since 2006, he has worked as a metro columnist with the Gary News-Tribune. He has won more than forty state and national awards from various journalism organizations for his work, including many columns on the Steel City. Christopher Meyers is the former director of planning and development for the City of Gary.
