Product Description Since his first Earwig release 19 years ago, The Jelly Roll Kings, Rockin' The Juke Joint Down (4901), Big Jack Johnson has gone on to increasing world-wide acclaim. His previous Earwig recordings garnered four stars in Rolling Stone and Downbeat. In 1996 Jack received the Living Blues Award as Best Live Performer. With his non-stop touring, he now rivals B.B. King for most shows in one year. This new release captures Big Jack at his awesome, raw peak with the Aron Burton Blues Band, with Mad Dog Lester Davenport on harmonica. Review Live in Chicago was recorded at two shows, one at the Hothouse in 1994, the other at Buddy Guy's Legends in 1995.... The sound varies between the two venues, with inferior recording equipment giving the Hothouse sides a slightly muddy quality. And the audience is mixed too far down throughout the disc, resulting in an almost total loss of the ambience of a live recording. Still, everything is listenable.... With a vocal and guitar style rooted in the blues of the contemporary Mississippi Delta ... [this album] faithfully documents a couple of performances that left no style untouched. -- Living Blues
