She was a stray, unexpectedly promoted to pioneer on board of Sputnik 2, the Soviet Russian Space Mission, in order to become the first animal to orbit earth. All this happened in 1957 and Laika has since become a hero not only of dog lovers but of people who love Space Travel alltogether.
