This kit’s hands-on modeling approach makes the complex chemistry of DNA/RNA protein synthesis easily understood. Students model replication, transcription, and translation and experience how information stored in DNA is expressed as a finished protein as they: Build and replicate an eight-rung DNA molecule. Use half the DNA ladder to build mRNA (messenger RNA). Simulate mRNA movement by placing mRNA on a ribosome. Simulate translation by matching mRNA and its codons to tRNA (transfer RNA) and its anti-codons. Disconnect the protein chain so the process can continue. Kit includes Teacher’s guide (1), student worksheets and guides, part I and II (24), packets of color-coded model components containing: (12), connectors (white tubes) (36), deoxyribose sugars (black) (36), hydrogen bonds (white rods) (18), adenine (orange tubes) (10), thymine (green tubes) (10), ribose sugars (purple) (9), cytosine (blue tubes) (8), guanine (yellow tubes) (8), uracil (purple tubes) (5), amino acids with R group (3), tRNA (purple) (3), peptide bonds (gray tubes) (2), ribosome (1).
