The 1x30 angle guide takes the guess-work out of finding and keeping the right angle in the sharpening process. It is intended for use with standard 1" sharpening belts and is not intended for use with the leather belts. It simply attaches to the platen behind the belt and you can choose whatever angle you like for sharpening. Then just rest the tool on the guide and start the belt until you have raised a burr. Be careful not to overheat the metal and keep a tray of water nearby for cooling. The angle guide is perfect for anyone wanting to customize sharpening. Different tools benefit from being sharpened at different angles, and it can also be nice to have duplicates of the same tools with different angles for different functions. You can also create compound bevels that are much more accurate and create strength for the final cutting edge which will give your edges more durability and increase their longevity. The Knife Sharpening Angle Guide will be very close to the belt when installed. That is in order to get the most accurate angle possible. It is meant to be used with higher grit belts, which are thinner and have less abrasive material that can rub the metal on the angle guide. If your Angle Guide is rubbing not he belt, simply use a coarse belt to remove a little of the metal from the angle guide. It is also possible to bend the guide metal back a little bit, but it's easier to use a coarse belt. Then you will have room for your higher grit belts to sharpen and hone knives. Smaller knives and larger knives work well with the 1x30 sharpening angle guide. It's all metal construction will ensure that your angle gauge will last for many years. Similar systems are set up with sharpening stones and rod guided systems, but who has the time? If you want a quick way to establish a bevel, or a final cutting edge, then look no further than the Knife Sharpening Angle Guide!
