The Jancy Holemaker II 240V, 5.7 amp portable magnetic-base drill press has a powerful magnet and compact size making it a good choice for fabricating in confined spaces, a 1-3/8” maximum cutting diameter, a 2” maximum cutting depth, an external coolant bottle that delivers coolant through the arbor, and an electromagnet with a dead lift of 2350 lb. and a drill point breakaway of 1095 lb. on 1” thick steel when drilling holes 1-1/16” diameter and larger. Safety features prevent the drill from turning on if the magnetic field is not strong enough to hold the drill, turn on a warning light when the magnetic field drops to an unsafe level, and turn the motor off if the press breaks free from the surface to which it is attached. A safety strap is designed to prevent the drill from falling when power to the magnet is interrupted, and a chip guard controls chips. For customization, a 3-spoke handle can be mounted on either side of the press. The drill press accommodates annular cutters with a 3/4" shank, and can be converted to hold a 1/2” capacity drill chuck (all sold separately). The Jancy Holemaker II 240V portable magnetic-base drill has a 1.75 horsepower (HP) 1380 watt single-phase motor. The drill is 14 x 7-3/4 x 13-3/4 inches (H x W x D) and it weighs 30 lb. (H is height, the vertical distance from lowest to highest point; W is width, the horizontal distance from left to right; D is depth, the horizontal distance from front to back.) Magnetic drill presses are used in steel fabrication industries to drill holes in steel where it is necessary to move the drill to the workpiece, such as ship and bridge building. They are portable and have a magnetic base that secures the drill to the steel workpiece, allowing the drill to be mounted vertically, from either the top or bottom of the workpiece, or horizontally on the side of the workpiece. They are usually used with annular cutters, though some can be converted to hold a chuck with drill bits or with threading taps. Magnetic drill presses are given two numbers that signify the strength of the magnetic field. Magnet deadlift signifies the amount of force it takes to lift the drill off 1” thick steel when the magnet is turned on. Drill point breakaway is the amount of force it takes the drill bit to push the drill off 1” thick steel when the drill is in operation. Generally, higher numbers indicate that the press can exert more force on the workpiece. Jancy Engineering manufactures Slugger portable magnetic drills and annular cutters, as well as metal working equipment for the fabrication trade. The company, founded in 1957 and headquartered in Davenport, IA, makes tools that meet American National Standards Institute (ANSI) standards. What’s in the Box?
