Excavation during the past twenty years has recovered over 15,000 objects from the bog at Illerup in Eastern Jutland (about 40% excavated); now there is a period of study and publication. This first volume describes lances and spears, most from the first five centuries AD - illustrating each example, its distribution within the bog, and a map of similar types found elsewhere in Scandinavia. This is followed by discussion of comparative find assemblages (with catalogue) from Scandanavia and northern Europe, and of relative and absolute dates.
