Fried, PhD, is an associate professor in the Department of Health Policy and Management in the Gillings School of Global Public Health at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he served as director of master’s degree programs for more than 20 years. Dr. Fried teaches courses in human resources management, international and comparative health systems, and globalization and health. He has written numerous journal articles, books and book chapters, commentaries, and book reviews and was coeditor of World Health Systems: Challenges and Perspectives, second edition (Health Administration Press, 2012). His research interests include the impact of improvement teams and culture on quality in healthcare settings, the healthcare workforce, mental health services, and global health. Dr. Fried has conducted workshops and management training courses in Eastern Europe, Asia, Latin America, Africa, the Middle East, and the Caribbean. He received his master’s degree from the University of Chicago and his doctorate from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
