This is a great handheld Digital Photo Laser Tachometer. It measure the rotational speed of machine parts, engines and motors in RPM, revolutions per minute, with a visible light beam. Just attach a reflective sticker to the rotating part and point the red laser beam on the mark from a safe distance. It is a great tool to measure the RPM of motors and machine parts. In wood and metal working it can be used to accurately measure the speed of a lathe. HVAC technicians use it to measure the speed of fans.
