This pendant features the Hebrew word "Chai" meaning 'living', with the two Hebrew letters Chet and Yod attached to each other. The word "Chai" appears in the popular Hebrew slogan "Am Yisrael Chai!"- "The people of Israel live!" Judaism is very focused around life, and the word "chai" has great significance. This amulet pendant is in the shape of a Hamsa, an ancient symbol picturing an opened hand with a palm and five outstretched fingers. The eye-charm is considered to be effective in warding off the influence of envious gazing. The "Star of David" or Magen David as it is known in Hebrew literally means the "Shield of David". According to the Kabbalah, the two triangles facing opposite directions represent the dichotomies inherent in man: good vs. evil, spiritual vs. physical, etc. The triangle that is pointing up symbolizes our good deeds, which are directed towards heaven and then activate a flow of goodness that comes back down into the world, which is symbolized by the triangle that is pointing down.
