About Grimm's Large Basic Building Set - Handmade Wooden
Beautiful, long-lasting wooden building blocks is a childhood essential that every child deserves. And this colorful, high quality set may likely be passed down to the next generation even after years of play. Handmade in Germany from solid, natural wood and stained with non-toxic water based dyes, this set includes 30 block pieces of various shapes (there are 2 of each size/shape block). Grimm's really thought through the design of their "basic" blocks to make them an excellent "first" building set for children starting from about 18 months, right on up to older kids who will use them as part of their more elaborate structures. Inspired by the philosophy of Waldorf education, Grimm's toys are designed to help children discover and develop their own creativity and leaving plenty of room for independent, open-ended play and imagination. Minimal finishing allows children to experience the natural look and feel of the wood. The shapes in this set can be used to build lots imaginative structures, and because they are on a 4x4 scale, these blocks combine seamlessly with other sets with base measurements of 4 cm in thickness. This set comes in a solid wood tray for storage and can be used as a building platform. All corners/edges of blocks and tray are sanded. Safe for Ages 1 year & up. NOTE: You may notice some color transference on the wood. This is not considered a defect as the blocks are unlacquered. Grimm's does not use lacquer in order to preserve the natural feel of the wood, keeping in line with their aim to design toys according to principles of Waldorf and Montessori education, which has also been used in the treatment of people with dementia. Unlacquered blocks are also easier to build with as they are less likely to slip.
