First Strike also posits the curious idea that the two previous direct-to-DVD Joe releases (2003's Spy Troops: The Movie and 2004's Valor vs. Venom) happened some 20 years before the events that take place in this feature. The result may be somewhat confusing to longtime Joe followers and those who are following the new Sigma 6 series, but thankfully, the action by which the Joe name has earned its stripes is plentiful here.
