Ave Maria! The Virgin Mary is commonly revered among Christians, especially those of a Catholic or Orthodox Christian background. However, her stories and actions are frequently relegated to ancient interpretation, which may enforce patriarchal dogma and, at times, assert religious authority over individuals to their personal and spiritual detriment. Therefore, Rev. Fr. Daniel Storrs has primarily investigated the ancient stories surrounding Mary’s early life, as contained within the revered Protoevangelium of James, suggesting a modern lens of interpretation which is mutually faithful to her narrative, the core values and catechetical truths of the Catechism of the Catholic Church, and the canonical Scripture. In considering Mary’s narrative, specifically from her own conception to the conception of Christ, Fr. Daniel has discovered Our Lady is truly an icon, or an example, of progressive advancement, new possibility, and motherly support for the faithful modern Catholic Christian who is willing to heed the call beyond certain traditional religious boundaries. Fr. Daniel invites the reader to journey with the Virgin and consider how her life, presented nearly 2,000 years ago, may remarkably support us in the pursuit of a meaningful Catholic faith, rooted in the grace and freedom of Christ, which holds in blessed friction the complexities of human life. Mary’s story may be ancient, but Our Lady’s truths are timeless! This is a terrific Mariology for today's Catholic Christian seeking to progressively advance in their faith-filled journey. Christians, of non-Catholic traditions, will be excited to learn how the Virgin Mary can benefit their understanding of the progressive nature of Christ. The Blessed Mother awaits you and is ready to share her story! Full color interior images. Mariology Thesis, 2018, Chicago Theological Seminary
