As a biological filter medium, the ceramic rings remove from the aquarium water ammonia and nitrite that may build up to dangerous levels. At 1100g, Fluval BioMax Rings have more capacity than most biological filter media. Their complex pore system allows beneficial bacteria to thrive, while allowing water to flow easily and constantly for optimal contact and filtration time. Fluval BioMax rings should be replaced once every three months. Appropriate for freshwater and marine environments.
