About Flip-o-storic

Product Description Create your own imaginary prehistoric beasts by turning over the flaps of this clever book. This interactive board book lets you mix and match the heads, bodies, and tails of ten real prehistoric animals?like the saber-tooth tiger, woolly mammoth, and Macrauchenia?in order to create almost a thousand different imaginary ones. The flaps include interesting facts about each animal part, so you can learn how your Flip-o-storic creature would behave. There’s also a handy chart that shows the actual size of the ten real animals that make up the ?ingredients” of your Flip-o-storic, and gives the meaning and pronunciation of their names. Flip-o-storic?which follows the incredible popularity of Sara Ball’s recently released dinosaur book, Flip-o-saurus?will captivate the imagination of anyone fascinated by these impressive and now extinct species. With its fun concept, beautiful artwork, and high production values, this book will make the perfect gift for any kid who loves the prehistoric. Review Praise for Sara Ball's Flip-o-saurus: "Sara Ball’s Flip-o-saurus… lets readers mix and match dinosaur heads, torsos, and tails to create new species." — Publishers Weekly, from "BookExpo America 2010: Big Children's Books of the Show" "Ball's painted portraits are big and bright enough to draw in even younger children." — School Library Journal "Sturdy split pages allow readers to create their own inventive combinations from among a handful of prehistoric critters… to amusing effect. Drehsen adds first–person captions on the versos, which will also mix and match to produce chuckles." — Kirkus Reviews "Like its predecessor, Flip-o-saurus, this innovative book, which opens calendar–style, displays portraits of several prehistoric animals… With hundreds of possible combinations and detailed descriptions of each physical component, readers will learn plenty, between giggles, about some unusual prehistoric animals." — Publishers Weekly " Flip-o-storic and Flip-o-saurus (Abbeville, 2010) will appeal to a broad audience of readers, reluctant ones included." — School Library Journal About the Author Sara Ball is a prolific illustrator of children’s books, including Abbeville’s Mix-a-Mutt, Flip-o-saurus, and Flip-o-storic. I use them to defend myself against my enemies, and they also earn me respect among my herd. I use the tip of my furry trunk like a hand to grasp and pull up grasses, which I like to eat. Layers keep me warm! In the winter my coarse fur grows three feet long. Underneath is dense wool, and under that is a thick layer of fat. I live off this fat in the winter, when there's not much to eat. I can't wait for spring when I feed on plants again! I can go on long migrations, traveling great distances on my strong, sturdy legs. My long fur, which covers even my tail, insulates me from the cold when I'm on the move.
