From School Library Journal PreS–While the opening lines–"Look at those feet! Aren't they sweet?"–promise an upbeat concept book, this companion to Teeth Are Not for Biting (2003) and Words Are Not for Hurting (2004, both Free Spirit) quickly turns didactic. After covering what feet are used for (walking, standing, leaping, landing, etc.), the text states, "Feet are not for kicking people. Ouch! Kicking hurts." Suggestions follow for what can be kicked (balls, leaves) and what to do if kicked. The colorful, bold illustrations featuring multiethnic children strain to make this instructive guide lighthearted and lively, but they don't succeed.–Andrea Tarr, Corona Public Library, CA Product Description "Look at those feet! Aren’t they sweet?” Yes—when they’re walking, standing, leaping and landing. And when they’re kicking balls or leaves. But not when they’re kicking people! In simple words and charming full-color illustrations, this book helps little ones learn to use their feet for fun, not in anger or frustration. It also includes tips for parents and caregivers on how to help toddlers be sweet with their feet.
