About the Author Toni Toland is an accomplished designer, artist, writer, and educator whose teaching expertise focuses on digital prepress and interactive design. A full-time faculty member in the College of Visual and Performing Arts at Syracuse University since 1981, she has also served in such administrative roles as chair of the Department of Visual Communication, director of the School of Art + Design, and program coordinator for Advertising Design. She has taught and developed curriculum for campus-based and online classes on print and interactive design at Syracuse and Westwood College Online. In addition, her career includes creative positions with design studios, advertising agencies, and TOWN & COUNTRY magazine. She earned design awards from ADVERTISING AGE and the Society for Publication Designers, among others. She is the author of BEST PRACTICE, THE PROS ON ADOBE ILLUSTRATOR and BEST PRACTICE, THE PROS ON ADOBE PHOTOSHOP, and she has served as technical editor for several others. She holds both BFA and MFA degrees in design. In her spare time, she enjoys knitting, sailing, and cooking. Annesa Hartman is a lead content developer for Kaplan University, where she manages a team of instructional designers in developing engaging online learning experiences for Kaplan faculty. A freelance graphic designer, she also has taught computer graphic courses for more than 16 years. She is the author of four other Cengage titles, including INTERACTIVE MEDIA DESIGN and DEVELOPMENT WITH ADOBE CS6. She holds a Masters in Teaching with Internet Technologies, focusing her attention on instructional design for online technologies, and web and graphic design concepts and programs. When she is not playing with pixels, she is directing, choreographing, or performing in local musical theater, teaching yoga, or working in her garden.
