A must have reference on Earth Retention Systems for the entire construction and engineering community Presents a systematic and comprehensive presentation of temporary excavation shoring and earth retention systems used to construct permanent facilities inside them. These systems are used to construct underground pipelines, tunnels, tank and storage facilities, foundations and structures. Each chapter presents a shoring system type description, how it is constructed, equipment requirements, cost analysis, etc. Safety, inspection and testing codes and methods included throughout. From the Publisher Alan Macnab's entire career has been spent with earth retention construction companies involved in both design-build and hard bid construction. His roles in construction have included work in operations, supervision, estimating, marketing, and claims, including executive positions in both Canada and the United States. He has held positions in a number of industry associations, including the Presidency of the ADSC--The International Association of Foundation Drilling (1990-1991) where he continues to chair the Standards and Specifications Committee. He is currently Vice President, President-Elect of the Geo-Insitute of the American Society of Civil Engineers. Macnab received his B.E. Sc. from the University of Western Ontario and continued there with graduate studies. He is licensed as a professional engineer in Canada. Macnab has been involved in the construction of earth retention and deep foundation projects since 1973. These projects have been implemented throughout North America, including eastern and western Canada, the northeastern states, Rocky Mountain states, and the West Coast. He has traveled extensively, reviewing construction techniques in North America, Europe, Asia, and the South Pacific. He is a frequent speaker on issues involved in these specialties to engineering, academic, and supervisory personnel and has written extensively on these topics. From the Back Cover BUILD A SOLID UNDERSTANDING OF TEMPORARY EXCAVATION SHORING AND EARTH RETENTION SYSTEMS An understanding of temporary excavation shoring and earth retention systems is essential for everyone in the construction and engineering community. Written by an industry expert with three decades' experience, this detailed handbook presents a systematic and comprehensive presentation of these complex systems. Each chapter describes a type of shoring system and includes coverage of: * How it is constructed and when the particular system should and should not be used* Equipment requirements, size, and tricks of the trade* Cost comparison* Engineering design principals and design methods* Codes and standards* Testing and inspection methods* And more Invaluable to firms involved in earth excavation, geotechnical and structural engineers, field supervisors, as well as safety officers, here is the definitive reference for anyone involved in the process of earth retention.
