From the Manufacturer A galleon was a large, multi-decked sailing ship used primarily by European states from the 16th to 18th centuries. Galleons evolved from the carracks (a Portuguese ship), but were lighter and faster than carracks and served as transports, trading vessels and warships. Historical records show that five galleons cost the same as three carracks.
