Damiana has an exotic history. The aroma of the plant and essential oil is unique; pungent, bitter-sweet and similar to stronger chamomile essential oils. It blossoms in early-to-late summer, followed by small fruits tasting somewhat like figs or bitter-sweet dates. The essential oil is made by distillation of the leaves and small blossoms.
