With a 2x power magnifier, text will be magnified two times. The focal length (the point of focus behind the lens) of a 2x power magnifier is longer than the focal length of a magnifier of higher power (i.e. 10x). The result of using a 2x magnifier instead of a 10x magnifier is the ability for you to have a greater distance between the magnifier and the subject behind the magnifier. This makes for a comfortable reading distance as you hold the magnifier and view the subject behind the magnifier. (Conversely, with a 10x magnifier, the distance between the magnifier and the subject behind the magnifier is close. The result of using a 10x magnifier is the requirement to hold the magnifier close to your face and the subject close to the magnifier.) This is not the preferred reading posture for most people, unless necessitated by low vision and/or an eye doctor's recommendation.
