About Creating The Urban Dream: Tackling The Affordable

Product Description For generations, homeownership has been an avenue to a better life. But discriminatory policies left many people out, and today’s trend of rising home prices continues to put housing beyond the reach of significant sectors of the workforce. This is particularly true in America’s urban centers, where a shortage of affordable housing is stifling social and economic mobility. We must face this problem with a balance of compassion and competence. The solution will require the efforts of many―including the public sector, private developers, financial institutions, and community leaders―all working together to find creative solutions rather than relying on the policies of the past. In Creating the Urban Dream, Clay Grubb shares the strategic focus of his decades-long career: how to provide good homes for the many people who need them and create dynamic neighborhoods where they can better their lives. Investing in the future through secure, affordable housing will be our country’s challenge for many years to come―and a huge opportunity for those who will join in helping to solve it. From the Back Cover PRAISE FOR CREATING THE URBAN DREAM “Clay Grubb’s refreshing book turns his practical experiences and compelling stories as a housing producer into innovative policy ideas and insights. Clay’s passion for housing and why it matters imbues every page and will energize the reader who wants to do more to solve housing affordability challenges.” Erika Poethig, Chief Innovation Officer, Urban Institute “Mr. Grubb is a leader with a purpose. In any business, those involved should ask themselves: what is the purpose of our company? Why are we on this earth? How are we contributing to a better society? Mr. Grubb has a clear answer to each of these questions, which he articulates in Creating the Urban Dream. As an investor, if you can find a leader with passion and purpose, you have answered 80 percent of the questions you should have about the business.” Tom Pritzker, Chairman and CEO, The Pritzker Organization “Making and keeping housing affordable is one of the defining issues of our time. Clay Grubb offers an insider’s perspective on the challenges and opportunities with passion and vision.” Anthony Foxx, US Secretary of Transportation, 2013-2017; chief policy officer and senior advisor to the president and CEO, Lyft About the Author Clay Grubb has been CEO of Grubb Properties since 2002.
