About Craft Brewer Dual Scale Refractometer - Brix
This hand-held optical refractometer measures the density of sugars in beer and wine, and gives an instant specific gravity or brix reading. The advantages of using this refractometer is the highly accurate testing results, and very little wort is wasted, as opposed to using a traditional hydrometer. NOTE: All refractometers are designed to be used with unfermented wort, when taking an original gravity reading. If you are taking a final gravity reading after fermentation, an online calculator must be used to calculate the final gravity, because alcohol is present in the beer, which skews the results. Do not let the use of an online calculator scare you off. All home brewers that use a refractometer do this to calculate their final gravity. It is very accurate, and can be trusted.
