In the Carpathian Mountains of eastern Europe, home of dragon and vampire myths, are found artisans that draw from a wellspring of history spanning centuries, and who honor the finest traditions in wood carving. This chess set is named after the the mythological deity Koliada, the sky goddess who brings up the sun. Unique and handsomely designed, these chess pieces are carved from Hornbeam and Sycamore - woods from the forests of Europe and well-suited to fine chessmen. Hornbeam (sometimes known as Ironwood) is mostly white and used for intricate and decorative carvings; Sycamore offers a dark brown, smooth textured wood, perfect for the dark pieces. These woods coupled with the craftsmanship of Carpathian masters together make perhaps the finest moderately priced chess set available in the marketplace today. The King is 2.5 inches tall, and the chess board is 11.8 inches x 11.8 inches - with beautiful decorated borders for display at home or office. Thanks to its compact size and unique design the Koliada can be considered the perfect travel chess set. The folding chess board, made of beach and birch wood, has finely burned ornamentation plus a billiard green felt interior for the chess piece storage. King Height: 2.5 inches; Case Folded: 11.8 x 6 x 2.25 inches.
