The Riptones' third release finds a high-octane middle ground between slap-bass rockabilly and old-fashioned honky-tonk. With nimble guitars leading the charge, the Rips throw down 11 songs this time around, including standouts like the rollicking "Rebel Rock Armageddon" and the churning title instrumental. Though singer Jeb Bonansinga's flat Midwestern vocals don't come across well on the slower numbers, this is still and all some fine guitar-oriented twang-rock from the Plains states, sincere and happily lacking in the image-mongering of many of their compatriots. --Jerry Renshaw
