This no-frills (10 songs, no liner notes) disc features many of Mercer's best-known Capitol recordings, including his duet with Margaret Whiting on "Baby It's Cold Outside," as well as "Ac-Cent-Tchu-Ate the Positive" and "On the Atchison, Topeka, and Santa Fe." The music is at once very much of its time and beyond its time--thanks both to Mercer's inventive writing and ebullient vocals. An acceptable, if incomplete, collection. --Rickey Wright
