Gourmet Beet Mix Blend of: RED CHIOGGIA BEET SEEDS: (Beta vulgaris): Pre-1840 Italian heirloom, introduced to the U.S. before 1865. Named for a fishing town near Venice. Uniquely beautiful flesh has alternating red and white concentric rings that resemble a bull's-eye. A feast for the eyes; wonderful for fresh eating and pickling. Retains markings if baked whole and sliced just before serving. 50 days. YELLOW DETROIT BEET SEEDS: Round, orange roots turn golden yellow when cooked, does not bleed, roots grow fast, retains sweet flavor when quite large, excellent for pickles, very tender and mild. 55 days. Sow seeds outdoors as soon as soil can be worked in spring. Seeds will germinate in 5-10 days. Can be planted at two-week intervals for continuous harvests. All parts of the beet plant are edible.
