Very nicely desgined with a ridge to hold the knife in place. 3 3/4 inches by 6 inches by 2 1/4 inches. How well your butter fits the butter dish will depend on the brand of butter you use. The inside ridge that is under the lid will hold a butter stick that is 4 inches long x 1-5/8 inches wide. The lid fits on the outside of the ridge and will cover a stick that is 4-1/4 inches long x 1-78 inches wide x 1-3/4 inches high. If the butter you use is longer than 4 inches in length, you may have to remove a small amount from the end of the stick.
