World Premiere Recording! The most famous musical partnership of the Classical Era was that of Mozart and his librettist Lorenzo da Ponte; the most famous (alleged) rivalry of the Classical Era was that of Mozart and his fellow composer, Antonio Salieri. Perhaps the rumors of rivalry would be more muted if more people knew the evidence to the contrary--including the fact that da Ponte also wrote librettos for Salieri! Here is their great collaboration, recorded for the first time ever during a live performance in 1989. Of special interest is this early (1989) appearance on record by soprano Eva Mei, in the role of Aspasia. Since then, Mei has starred in numerous opera recordings to great acclaim. A real rarity, not to be missed by the serious collector!
