About Aviation Adventure

Aviation & Space Aviation Adventure One disc that is not overly focused on military aviation is Aviation Adventure (Knowledge Adventure - ages 8 & up). Combat aircraft get no more attention than gliders, commercial jets, or paper planes. The title is a competent, if lightweight, exploration of air travel, providing a lot of options but not much to do within them. Look in the Aviation Museum for trivia like Famous Aviators or fluff like Dogfights - short animated films that pit cartoon planes against each other for five or ten seconds. For a little (but not a lot) more depth, check out the Aircraft Encyclopedia, which uses text, narration, and pictures to present - yes! - aircraft. Watch some movies in the Aviation Theater; although the sub-section entitled 'bloopers' features a picture of a flaming plane going down, the bloopers themselves don't involve human causalities. Instead, there are a lot of planes falling off aircraft carriers, and a few early efforts at human flight that look really silly in retrospect. The Aviation Lab provides bare-bones models of a handful of aircraft ranging from WWI fighters to the Space Shuttle. Then there's the fun stuff, which has certainly been given its fair share of space on the disc. Make a variety of paper planes, with rotating 3-D models to guide you, in the Paper Plane Factory, or play some games. Besides a trivia game, there's a very rudimentary glider game and a DOS flight simulator/war game that is far from cutting edge. - January 1996
