This is Jodi Burnett's first installment in a brand new series of romantic mysteries, and she's hit it out of the park again! I thoroughly enjoyed her Flint River series and was anxious for her FBI-K9 books. The waiting was well worth it. Burnett creates realistically flawed and completely likeable main characters and had me rooting for them from the get-go. I couldn't help but fall in love with Rick Sanchez and wanted to be Kendra, the perfect yin to his yang. The characters are multi-layered and struggle with the same challenges many of us face, which makes them interesting and fun to read. Even Burnett's villain, as evil as he was, has multiple facets that at times make him sympathetic. Burnett has a talent for putting you in the scene while she's ratcheting up the tension.
