Review “This book is a delight for any young person or young-at-heart person who has always wanted to think a little deeper about what an architect does and wants to have a lot of fun along the way. Mark and Siena Moreno make an awesome team, creating fun and engaging activities for the next generation of architects.” ―Ashleigh Walton, AIA, NCARB, NOMA, architect and project manager at Urban Design Associates “The Morenos have assembled a thorough catalog of architecture-making in an inviting and easily digestible format. They paired concise technical realities with engaging prompts for creative exploration. There are more than 50 exercises that range from graphics to town-making. This is a fun book because it combines real information with invitations to dreamy speculation. If I were a home-schooler this book would be in my arsenal to keep kids energized and engaged with fruitful exercises. The terminology used throughout will be a bonus to a growing vocabulary. The authors provide a wide range of multicultural expressions of architecture that could perhaps dovetail into other subject matters.” ―Joe Self, registered architect “Learning to ‘draw an idea’ becomes as simple as telling a story when following the creative compositions in Architecture for Kids. The creative spark of the kid in all of us will glow and grow from the imaginative and engaging exercises developed by the Morenos.” ―Thomas Lowing, AIA, licensed architect and associate professor “Architecture for Kids stands out because, though it is written for children, it teaches in a way that refuses to treat children as less able to think and reason. The design process is presented in a clear, orderly system, starting with a vocabulary for the language that architects use and building literally from the ground up, with each page in the book adding new concepts and fun exercises. This is a fun and enlightening book for anyone curious about what makes good design for the built environment we live in.” ―Timothy Dill, AIA architect “Mark and Siena’s book has re-sparked my love for architecture. They have done an amazing job codifying this art. This book will help children of any age understand and appreciate something many of us take for granted: the spaces we live in. Architecture for Kids is so elegantly simple and complete; it should be a mandatory book for any aspiring architect.” ―Moises Norena, innovation expert, architect.
