About & His Texas Wanderers

(5-CD LP-sized box-set with 60-page book) Fiddler Cliff Bruner's Texas Wanderers were one of the most important and exciting bands in Texas Swing history, a group that stirred countless others and bridged the gap between the western swing sound of the '30s and the honky-tonk sound of the '40s. Not only did Bruner introduce such enduring classics as It Makes No Difference Now, I'll Keep On Loving You, and Truck Driver's Blues, he also is one of the most revered and influential fiddle players in American music, an unmistakable, inventive and hard-swinging player, captured here at the height of his powers. This 5-CD set collects all of Bruner's recordings as a full-time bandleader from 1937-1950, 123 songs cut for Decca, Mercury and Ayo, including the classics mentioned above and others, like Bruner's signature tune Jessie and his early cover of Milk Cow Blues. The cream of Texas western swing instrumentalists are here, like Bob Dunn, Leo Raley, Link Davis, Dickie McBride, and Moon Mullican who - in his recordings with Bruner - defined the style that would make him a postwar country star. Produced with Cliff's full cooperation, this set is an amazing testimony to an overlooked talent.
