Renowned for applying new, fun designs to everyday household items, Alessi has done it again with this corkscrew in the shape of a woman. Alessandro Mendini designed the opener in 1994, modeled after his girlfriend and fellow designer, Anna Gili. Crafted from chrome-plated zamak and available in a choice of colors, the tool works as a regular corkscrew. Turn the head to insert the screw and the "arms" look like a person's arms rising to signal the full insertion of the screw. Gently lower Anna's arms to uncork the bottle. Part of Mendini's Anna series, the corkscrew makes a perfect gift for newlyweds and new homeowners. It measures 2-3/4 inches wide by 9-1/2 inches long and is easy to spot in any drawer. It should be hand washed only. Peruse the full stock of A di Alessi household items to find fun, like-minded pieces for the home.
