AIR802 has developed a passive Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) kit or set that allows low cost of delivering power over the network cable for shorter distances. This scheme allows power to be carried on 10/100 networks over the spare, unused pairs of a CAT5, CAT5E, or CAT6 Ethernet network cable. On shorter network lengths, the source power could be the power supply that came with the wireless access point, IP video surveillance camera, etc. This set contains a very cost effective injector and breakout or splitter component. The injector inserts the DC voltage at the source location into the 3.5 mm x 1.35 m injector plug. The DC voltage is then carried over the spare pairs of the 10BASE-T or 100BASE-T network cable. The breakout or splitter extracts the DC voltage from the network cable onto the 3.5 mm x 1.35 mm splitter jack. Other models with various DC size connectors are available. This model is commonly used with Foscam model cameras. Foscam cameras come with 5vdc power supplies. Voltage drops or dissapates naturally over ever foot of cable used. The precise amount of the voltage drop depends on variables like the cable length and quality. There is an abundance of poor quality cable in the market, including patch cords. It is too complex to fully describe here but in general the AWG (size) of the conductor is mis-stated (smaller than than specified) or it may use copper cladded aluminum instead of solid copper as the conductor. Note that Foscam cameras will not work less than 4.5 vdc. Exceeding 1/2 volt loss causes the camera not to operate. Insure quality cable and many are using a higher output power supply, i.e. 6vdc. *Note our return policy requires any returns to be in the original packaging. Always check the DC connector size prior to ordering.
