Dub Mx Amazon.com Along with Alex Patterson's Orb, Future Sound of London traveled the frontiers of what in the early '90s was called ambient house music. This reissue of their first album, Accelerator, shows the group in transition away from conventional techno dance floor techniques and toward the expansive sound of Lifeforms. While tracks like "Stolen Documents" are very much of their time with static, thumping synthesizer sequencer grooves, other compositions, like "Expander" and "Papua New Guinea," still sound as forward looking and kinetic as they did in 1992. Mixing a dub bass-line and the sampled voice of Lisa Gerrard (Dead Can Dance), "Papua New Guinea" is an electro-dance symphony that exemplified their cut-and-paste artistry. Accompanying this reissue is a second disc, Papua New Guinea Mix Anthology, with 10 remixes of that signature song. It seems like nine more than anyone actually needs, but it provides a fascinating expanse of theme and variation. You'll find even more on another FSOL disc, Papua New Guinea Translations. --John Diliberto Review Celebrating the release of the first new Future Sound Of London in 7 years, Hypnotic Records proudly presents this very special 2-CD set, which includes a reissue of the FSOL s debut album Accelerator and remixes of the classic dance hit Papua New Guinea! Accelerator marked a major turning point in intelligent dance music and this release sees FSOL adding fuel to the fire with two brand new remixed bonus tracks! The Papua New Guinea Mix Anthology features five remixes from the single Translations plus six more including the never before released Andrew Weatherall Full Length Mix in a deluxe digi-pack cover! Not just for collectors but a must have for all fans of electronica! When Garry Cobain and Brian Dougans adopted the name The Future Sound Of London in 1992, there were those in the local dance community who considered it an impertinent choice. Yet as the infinite loop of time has gyroscoped, the open mindedness embodied in their early work has been adopted as standard in many forms of electronica. But their time as explorers on the fringes of dance came to an end when a beautiful, transportive piece of music and called it Papua New Guinea. That single, and Accelerator the album that supported it, is now regarded as one of the last decade s defining musical moments. Accelerator formed a kinetic soundscape for an optimistic dystopia and established them as leading lights in the head music zone. Both intelligent techno and a flourishing ambient scene were hugely enabled by FSOL s success and, after signing to Virgin Records, the group went on to achieve dizzying, breathtaking heights with the subsequent albums Lifeforms and Dead Cities. Now, more than a decade after its initial release, both the album and single receive a well-deserved revisitation. Electronica fans of all stripes and colors have the opportunity to experience the magic all over again with this very special 2-CD set. --Cleopatra Records
