A VISUAL COURSE OF MODELLING TECHNIQUESThis is the first in a series of visual courses in which I will share my long experience as a sculptor and designer with my readers.Through 170 photos and 4 practical exercises you will discover the techniques and procedures for making bas-reliefs and high-reliefs. The pictures will help you carry out your work step by step: they show the proper positions and moves of the hands and tools in modelling. The text also has a lot of technical information about clay and tools.The course starts with a simple practice exercise and ends up with more complex assignments like modelling human figures and portraits.The course is not aimed at expert sculptors but at those who wish to start learning about the art of sculpture. The techniques shown here are the result of the author’s 40-year-long experience as a sculptor, as well as of his experience as a teacher in the Italian High School and in his private courses.From his life-long experience, the author has learnt that, if you want to teach something, images are much more effective than words.By consequence, this manual is mainly made up of photographs followed by short explanantions.The pictures are black and white, to reduce printing expenses. All the same, as the colour of clay is grey, this has no negative impact on the effectiveness of the course.I cannot guarantee you will reach perfection at your first attempt, but I can assure that the method shown in this manual is the quickest one to achieve excellent results
