About the Author Omar N. Bradley was born in Clark, Missouri, on February 12, 1893. He was the first chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and only the fourth American to rise to the rank of five-star general. He died on April 8, 1981, and was buried with full military honors in Arlington National Cemetery.
