I make these bread slicing guides in Lincolnton, Georgia one at a time from solid 3/4" oak lumber for the side rails and 1/2" oak veneer for the bread table. There are not any plastic parts to break. This one guide will cut bread at approximately 3/8", 1/2" and 3/4" thicknesses quickly and easily without any moving or adjusting of the guide. Plus this guide will work with the optional "Vertical Base Attachment" so that you can slice bread vertically if you desire. The last picture shows it in use. Remember it is an option and not included with this slicing guide. The "Vertical Base Attachment" is available at an extra cost on this sight. Video available on how it works by going to You Tube and searching for "Mystery Lathe". My goals were to make it easy to use, affordable, durable, easily stored and most of all slice straight slices of bread every time. It also needed to be compatible using either an electric (Knife blade assembly must measure less than 3/16" thick to fit into the 3/16" knife slot) or bread knife. Plus be usable by right or left handed people. Clean with a damp cloth. Do not soak with water. A mineral oil finish used has been hand applied to all surfaces. The penetrating quality of food-grade mineral oil brings out the depth of grain in wood and helps prevent drying and cracking. A few words of advice: The guide is over 7" wide and will not work with a short 8" bread knife. I use one that is 12" long. They are available on line or most home good stores. Our electric knife has a blade length of 7 1/2" and works fine since it does the sawing, not you as in a bread knife that needs to saw back and forth. Use caution while slicing with a knife to avoid injury. Knife not included with guide. Overall width: 7" (Accepts bread loaf widths up 5 1/2" wide) Length: 12" Height: 3 1/2" Weight: 1 lbs. 14 oz
