About the Artist In contrast to some of the over-enthused five-star ratings that magazines bestowed onto The Naked Truth, Lil Kim's album isn't an instant classic despite its stronger moments. Recorded during the throes of Lil Kim's perjury trial, given the choice between hints of remorse or at least, contemplation, and all-out defiance, the Notorious K.I.M. throws down a an array of lyrical glares, most obviously on the song, "Shut Up B****," but that sentiment suffuses the entire album. Less raunchy than previous efforts, The Naked Truth has a surprisingly good Brooklyn anthem in the Lauryn Hill-soundalike track "Lighters Up," some reggae soul of "Durty" and yet another Biggie-inspired riff with, "All Good." If you like skits, Kim's got half a dozen for your pleasure but as usual, they tend to detract from the album's momentum rather than add much value. A good album but not a masterpiece, one wonders if Kim's current jail bid will give her cause to betray even a smidgen of vulnerability or just goad Kim to even greater notoriety. --Oliver Wang Product Description Multi-platinum recording artist Lil' Kim possesses a presence and persona that looms well beyond her tiny frame.
