Scratch and Peck Feeds Cluckin' Good Layer Grit - 7 Features

  • Necessary For Digestion - Made up of insoluble crushed quartzite or granite, grit remains in the bird’s gizzard to help with digestion. Grit is an essential part of your bird’s diet and should always be provided.

  • Age to Give - Start after 20+ weeks. Layer Grit is for all laying hens. Broilers should switch directly from the Chick Grit to the Layer Grit at 4 weeks of age.

  • Available In Different Sizes - Scratch and Peck Feeds Cluckin’ Good Poultry Grit is available in three convenient sizes: Chick, Grower, and Layer. Offer Layer Grit either free choice in a separate dish or tossing on the ground in their coop.

  • Better Nutrition - Using the appropriately sized grit allows for the maximum nutrient benefit from whole grain chicken feed. Feed to developing pullets and full-grown hens and roosters at approximately 20 weeks of age.

  • Promote Healthy Habits - In the wild, the chickens will go out and get the grit themselves, their mother will teach them to pick up little stones and they’ll naturally gravitate towards picking up these little stones.

About Scratch And Peck Feeds Cluckin' Good Layer Grit - 7

Scratch and Peck Feeds offers grit in three sizes - Chick, Grower, and Layer. Grit is necessary for the healthy development of a chicken's gizzard. The gizzard aids in digestion, and allows for maximum nutrient benefit from whole grain feeds. Made up of insoluble crushed rock, grit remains in the bird's gizzard to help with digestion. Grit is an essential part of your bird's diet and should always be provided, especially if there is no access to small, sharp rocks. Oyster Shell should not be substituted for Grit. Oyster Shell is intended to be broken down quickly and digested to allow for calcium absorption and egg shell strength. Grit is intended to build up in the gizzard and grind food as it passes through. Grit comes in various sizes for different birds depending on size and age. Our Layer Grit may be larger than what has been provided commercially, however, a long running poultry enterprise that we work with achieves their best results with this larger grit. If you have bantams or smaller hens, you may want to stick with the Grower Grit.
