The AmpFlow speed reducer is a heavy-duty, low-cost, gearhead that works with any of the three-inch AmpFlow motors. It uses a unique arrangement of roller chains and sprockets rather than gears. This results in torque and efficiency comparable to gear-type reducers at just 1/2 or even 1/3 of the cost of high-torque, geared speed reducers. It is made with a three-piece aluminum case that has been precision CNC machined. The case measures 6 x 3 x 2 inches. The shaft is 3/4-inch diameter and 2.2 inches long. It has a 1/4-inch keyway and a 5/16-24 tapped hole. The long shaft makes it easy to mount wheels, pulleys, sprockets, or gears. The reduction ratio is 8.3:1. The backlash is +/- 1.2 degrees, and it has been tested to a failure point of 3500 inch-pounds (395 nm) of torque. Four 1/4-20 mounting bolts are supplied with the unit. The motor is the AmpFlow A28-400. (Other motors are also available). This motor is designed to deliver the highest performance and efficiency possible from a brushed DC motor of this size. This is achieved by the use of rare-earth neodymium magnets, along with four brushes, and advanced electromagnetic computer modeling and design. There is a short 3/8-inch diameter shaft on the rear of the motor for mounting an optical encoder. The heavy-gauge 12 AWG motor leads are 17 inches long. This reversible gearmotor can be used at voltages ranging from 12V to 36V (the RPM is proportional to the voltage.) At 24 Volts, the no-load speed is 580 RPM. Peak short-term power output is 3200 Watts (4.3 horsepower). Peak efficiency is reached while drawing 50 Amps at 540 RPM. Wheels that mount directly onto this gearmotor are available. They range in size from 4 inches to 12.5 inches. Search Amazon for "AmpFlow WheelMotors". AmpFlow® gearmotors are used in diverse applications, including robots, industrial motion control, factory automation, semiconductor manufacturing, power tools, pumps, and personal transport systems.
