He led a team to extract successfully the vinblastine, an active ingredient in Catharanthus roseus (Vinca rose). Vinblastin is used to treat leukemia (cancer of the white blood cells), so it has a very high price, millions of dollars per kilogram.Later, at a Center for Agricultural Chemistry Research, he led a team continuing to research a project lasting more than 20 years but has never been completed because the active ingredient of the product cause fire and explosion.
