The Pakistani girl was targeted for speaking out against the Taliban's policies suppressing the education of girls in the region where she lived, the Swat Valley. The assassin was unsuccessful. Malala survived and became a voice for children's rights. The Nobel Peace Prize runner-up inspired leaders to take action for students in Pakistan.
