It is 2017, and another storm barrels toward Jacksonville, Florida. Nancy and Fairfax, childhood friends, now forty-something neighbors, face down Hurricane Irma as life crises swirl around them. Fairfax, a breast cancer survivor, works to keep her family running smoothly while playing matchmaker for Nancy. Nancy worries over job security and chafes as her community tries to pair her off. A cadre of men has surfaced in her world, circling round like the winds of Irma: Max, Fairfax’s brother-in-law; Adam, another childhood friend; Peter Redmond, a doctor who lives in the neighborhood; and various and sundry others.Ecclesiastes says, “Two are better than one,” but Nancy has been a self-sufficient singleton for years. Is she to believe that a man from her past or present is a perfect match?
